Hyper Japan is the premier J-Culture event in the UK and is running it’s Spring show this weekend, from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th February 2012, at Earls Court in London. I attended the Sunday of the last show, in July of last year, and it was an absolute blast, you can read the review here.
Spread across the whole weekend and half of Friday, Hyper Japan provides a whole slew of attractions. The main stage will play host to a number of presentations including live performances from Natsuko Aso and Beckii Cruel, cosplay events (including the UK selections for both the World Cosplay Summit and the European Cosplay Gathering) along with traditional dance and judo.
The event also contains the Sushi Awards 2012 and the Sake Awards 2012, where people who’ve purchased the applicable ticket types (additional to the entry fee) can enjoy tasting a special selection of sushi’s and sake’s vying for their votes to be crowned champion. As well as these award events, Hyper Japan will be filled with a large selection of Japanese cuisine vendors to tempt your taste buds and keep up your energy throughout your stay.
As well as an array of vendors selling all forms of entertainment merchandise, you’ll find various tour operators, culture and fashion tables offering convenient browsing from across a large cross section of J-Culture. In additional, both NAMCO and Nintendo (bring your 3DS!) will be on hand, offering a mix of games for attendees to try out.
I’ll be attending Saturday 25th this time and reporting back on the days events, so stay tuned for our review. However, why just read a review when you could actually come along?! It’s £12 for general entry, or £6 for either Friday or late entry on the Saturday or Sunday, if you buy online (or £14, £7 and £7 respectively on the door). Earls Court is well served by transport links, so if London’s not too far from you, then it shouldn’t be too difficult getting to the event.
You can find in depth articles and full information on everything going on at the event at its website, www.HyperJapan.co.uk. Maybe see some of you there!
