New DVD & Blu-ray releases: 9th January 2012

It’s been a while since we had our weekly release update so let’s get back into the routine. This week we have four high profile releases from three of the big anime distributors.

First up from Manga Entertainment we have the concluding volume of K-On! Look out for our review of this volume later in the week

MVM are starting 2012 off with a new completely release rather than releasing on of their previous series. Welcome to the NHK takes an interesting, if not surreal, look into the lives of a otaku living in Tokyo and a strange conspiracy theory that has lead him to live his depressing lonely existence. The series makes a refreshing change from the usual anime releases. With its original story and varying animation styles it’s one series that should not be overlooked.

From StudioCanal UK is the highly anticipated release of Arrietty on DVD and Blu-ray. This latest release from the legendary Studio Ghibli is the directorial debut for Hiromasa Yonebayashi while Hayao Miyazaki writing a fantastic adaptation of Mary Norton’s The Borrowers. This release of the film includes an English language dub that is exclusive to the UK. StudioCanal UK are also releasing Whisper of The Heart on Blu-ray this week, continuing their trend of re-releasing the classic Ghibli films of the HD platform.
